The 2017 Detroit Auto Show Recap

This year’s Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS) showcased what the best automotive engineers of our generation have in the pipeline. From futuristic concept cars to 2017 and 2018 models that are months away from hitting our Kansas City car dealerships, here are some of our favorite highlights from Detroit’s showroom floor.

Award-Winning Chevy Bolt EV

Chevrolet made out like bandits at Detroit’s NAIAS, winning the prestigious North American Car of the Year Award for its 2017 Chevy Bolt EV.

The 2018 Chevrolet Traverse was also revealed, and it should become a family favorite once again. Celebrating its 10-year anniversary, the 2018 Traverse will offer more room than previous models, a versatile split-folding second row of seats, and a standard 305-horsepower 3.6L V6. Minivans beware.

The 2018 GMC Terrain

SUVs were all the rage at this NAIAS, and of the many we saw, the 2018 GMC Terrain was one of the finest. Pushing into its second generation, the Terrain is set to up the ante in the style department with some chrome flourishes, improved seating, and upscale trims. Its lineup of available engines includes a standard 170-hp 1.5L turbo, 255-hp 2.0L turbo, and an exceptional 1.6L turbocharged diesel that produces 137 horsepower. The latter should net some incredible fuel-efficiency numbers.

Unveiling the 2018 Toyota Camry

Fresh from a facelift, the 2018 Camry was a hot-ticket item at the Detroit Auto Show. Heading into its eighth generation, the Camry is built on the rigid “Toyota New Global Architecture” platform and rear suspension, which should boost the Camry’s fun-to-drive nature to eleven.

The cabin shows off the Camry’s sporty demeanor with angled cockpit gauges, soft-touch materials, and deep seats. Modern tech is just as apparent, too, thanks to Toyota’s new interface on the 7- and 8-inch touchscreens, large 10-inch HUD, and a refreshed central stack of nifty driver-assist controls. Navigation is also standard across all Camry trims with Toyota Entune 3.0, which was also newly announced at this year’s NAIAS.

Three new engines are also available in the 2018 Camry, with the most dynamic being the upgraded 3.5-liter V6 (available in higher trims). Lower trims receive a 2.5L engine while the Camry Hybrid will sport a new Toyota Hybrid System II.

The 2018 Camry should be available at our Kansas City car dealerships later this summer.

Nissan Vmotion 2.0

Nissan took to the stage at the Detroit Auto Show and showed off its guns with the world debut of the Nissan Vmotion 2.0 concept car. Earning the award for the best concept car, the Vmotion 2.0 stunned audiences with its aggressive exterior styling and stunning cabin design. Unique are the 90-degree swinging doors that open up to pillar-less cabin. From the driver’s seat, the Vmotion 2.0 is just as interesting; a shrunken steering wheel and 3D instrumentation cluster look realistically futuristic and should pave the way for Nissan’s venture into autonomous driving.

Also announced at the 2017 NAIAS was Nissan’s 2017 Rogue Sport trim, which should be available for sale later this spring from our car dealers near Kansas City.

The Hyundai Ioniq EV

Hyundai revealed its innovative Ioniq last year, but they were gracious enough to bring it back to the stage at the NAIAS. Prepared to hit the market in the spring, the Hyundai Ioniq comes as a pure EV, Hybrid, and Plug-In (launching in fall).
